This option is used when you are leaving the counter for some work but do not want to close the program completely. When you log off, you will come out of the program. Next time you have to enter only password and you will reach to the same screen you left that time. This is completely different from exit. Try this option by going to Transaction>Log off or pressing Shift+Del.
